Lapis Lazuli was revered in both Egypt and Babylonia and was believed to be a cure for melancholy. The Egyptian high priest wore a Lapis Lazuli image of Mat, the goddess of truth, around his neck. The Romans believed that lapis Lazuli was also a powerful aphrodisiac. In the Middle Ages, it was thought to keep the limbs healthy and free the soul from error, envy and fear.

Lapis Lazuli is said to be associated with self-confidence, truthfulness, openness and inner tranquility. Lapis Lazuli is the ancient stone of mental and psychological health. It promotes spiritual healing, mental calmness and strength of will. It increases psychic abilities and allows for spiritual growth.

Used during meditation, Lapis Lazuli aids in detaching one from the physical body and allowing for a deeper and more open state of consciousness.

Lapis Lazuli is said to alleviate pain, especially migraine headaches, benefits the respiratory and nervous systems, the throat, larynx, thyroid, and cleanses organs, bone marrow, thymus and immune system. It reportedly helps overcome hearing loss, insomnia, and lowers blood pressure.

Lapis Lazuli is a good stone for emotional healing, and helps to get to the root cause of dis-ease. Lapis Lazuli is also a very powerful tool for dream work. Historians leave little doubt that Lapis Lazuli was the sapphire of the ancient civilizations, who together with turquoise was considered Lapis Lazuli to be the most valuable of all gemstones.
